Dr. Brant-Zawadzki received his B.A. from Stanford University, and his M.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he received the Hoffheimer prize, awarded to the top graduating medical student. He trained in Radiology and Neuroradiology at Stanford University Medical Center, following which he spent six years on the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco, in the Neuroradiology Section. He has authored and co-authored over 150 papers in professional journals, and has a large number of book chapters to his credits. He has authored and co-authored nine textbooks.

He lectures nationally and internationally. He is a member of multiple professional societies, sits on the Executive Committee of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance Medicine, as well as on the Task Force on Clinical Guidelines for the North American Spine Society. He serves on the editorial board of numerous professional publications including JAMA, American Journal on Neuroradiology, Radiology, and several others. In 1989, he was elected to the Fellowship of the American College of Radiology and in 1993 he received the special Gold Medal from the Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine for outstanding pioneering achievements in magnetic resonance imaging.

He is currently Medical Director of Radiology at Hoag Memorial Hospital, and holds clinical professorship at Stanford University Medical Center.
