RYE, NY, April 3, 2006 /PRNewswire/ -- Irwin Kuperberg, President and founder of the Institute for Advanced Medical Education (IAME) will moderate a panel discussion on the regulation of industry-supported continuing medical education (CME). The session, which is to take place on April 4, 2006 is part of the Pharmaceutical Marketing Summit in New Brunswick, New Jersey where approximately 600 pharmaceutical executives are expected to attend. Kuperberg will be joined by co-moderator Robert Kristofco, Director of CME at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, who is also an Advisory Board member of IAME.
Together they will lead a panel representing a cross-section of experts from education and the pharmaceutical industry. By using simulated cases in an interactive format they will offer audience members a look at ways to appropriately manage their companies' involvement with CME. "For better or worse, pharma support is integral to CME. This idea exchange should help the audience bring some best practices back to their companies," said Kuperberg.
According to data compiled by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) half of the $2B annual revenue in the U.S. CME enterprise comes from firms that manufacture FDA-regulated products. The pervasive relationship of industry to CME is the subject of growing scrutiny by government regulators and the media.
