Course Overview

This course reviews the placenta accreta spectrum, including placenta accreta, increta, and percreta, with emphasis on ultrasound detection, risk stratification, and timely communication of concern. Participants will learn to identify major clinical risk factors for PAS and recognize the most important gray-scale and Doppler ultrasound findings associated with abnormal placental invasion, including loss of the clear zone, placental lacunae, myometrial thinning, bridging vessels, and uterovesical hypervascularity. The course also highlights how to distinguish suspicious findings from normal variants, apply appropriate reporting language, and document findings clearly to support referral and multidisciplinary care planning. By the end of this activity, learners will be better prepared to detect concerning ultrasound markers, communicate suspicion with confidence, and contribute to earlier recognition of PAS to help reduce maternal morbidity.
